Kaylen Walton Nelson lived in Price Utah as a child before moving to Vernal Utah where she graduated from Uintah High School in 2008. She attended BYU and graduated in 2013 with a degree in Family History and Genealogy. Attending a semester abroad in Jerusalem was the highlight of her education and sparked her love for scripture and the Holy Land. She has since returned twice. Kaylen followed in her father’s footsteps and was hired to teach seminary full-time in 2013. She was married in 2015 to Graden Nelson in the Manti Temple. He is her biggest supporter, friend, and travel buddy. Recently, Kaylen earned a master’s degree from the University of Utah in Teacher Leadership and Policy. She taught seminary for nine years at Brighton, Olympus, and Corner Canyon High Schools before taking a position at BYU. Her time at BYU is split between the Church History and Doctrine Department and the Preservice Department, aimed at training student teachers to become skilled seminary instructors.
