“For a Wise Purpose in Him”: Perspectives on the Small Plates of Nephi Conference

The BYU Department of Ancient Scripture is pleased to co-sponsor For a Wise Purpose in Him: Perspectives on the Small Plates of Nephi, a two-day academic conference to be held Friday and Saturday, May 29–30, 2026, on the campus of Brigham Young University.

Sponsored by The Interpreter Foundation and co-sponsored by the BYU Department of Ancient Scripture, FAIR Latter-day Saints, Scripture Central, and The Ancient America Foundation, the conference will bring together leading scholars to explore the doctrine, history, literary artistry, and enduring significance of the Small Plates of Nephi (1 Nephi through Words of Mormon). The conference is being held in honor of President Jeffrey R. Holland.

Featured speakers include Daniel C. Peterson, Jennifer Lane, Noel Reynolds, John Gee, Jeffrey M. Bradshaw, Stephen O. Smoot, and Brant Gardner.

The conference is free and open to the public.
