Bio: Native of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Served mission to Texas, 1967–69. Head of Special Collections at the University of Manitoba, 1978–97. Former stake president, Winnipeg, Manitoba. PhD in US Intellectual History, Wayne State University. Married to Patricia Dyer. Five children and twenty-three grandchildren. Author of eight books and sixty-plus articles, mainly on nineteenth-century Church history, including plural marriage, the Latter-day Saint exodus, Brigham Young, and Wilford Woodruff. Presently Church history editor at BYU Studies. Former  department chair and associate dean.
