Biography
Rob Eaton has had an unusually diverse career that includes being a visiting instructor of political science at BYU before heading off to law school at Stanford, practicing law at a big firm in Seattle, being an executive at a Northwest consortium of Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies, being an Institute director, teaching religion at BYU-Idaho, overseeing online learning and Pathway at BYU-Idaho during its first four years, serving as a mission leader, serving as BYU-Idaho's associate academic vice president for learning and teaching, and now, serving as a visiting teaching professor at BYU. He's co-authored President Henry B. Eyring's biography as well as a book aimed at college professors, Improving Learning and Mental Health in the College Classroom. He's taught and spoken at multiple universities and on multiple podcasts on the latter book. He loves teaching and connecting with students to help them become enduring disciples of Jesus Christ who realize their divine potential.
Rob and Dianne Eaton are the parents of four children and twelve grandchildren. He loves exercising, especially outside, whether it's cycling, hiking, trail running, mountain biking, or playing pickleball.
Research Interests
Rob is especially interested in the scholarship of learning and teaching, especially with how professors can design courses and teach in a way that is most effective for students with mental health challenges.Teaching Interests
Rob teaches Foundations of the Restoration, Missionary Preparation, and Christ and the Everlasting Gospel. In his career, Rob has also taught New Testament, Book of Mormon, Old Testament, Teachings of the Living Prophets, an interdisciplinary course on Pakistan. He also team-taught a disciple leadership course with Henry J. Eyring.Professional Citizenship
