Research Interests

Dr. Sorensen’s research focuses on teaching and learning in higher education, with particular emphasis on religious education contexts. Her research interests include spiritual formation, teacher–student interaction in distanced settings, blended and online learning, instructional design, course and learning activity design, and large-class pedagogy. She is especially interested in how instructional decisions influence students’ learning, testimony development, and engagement with their faith. Her research agenda seeks to inform both scholarly conversations and practical improvements in teaching, curriculum design, and faculty development within faith-based higher education.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Sorensen’s teaching interests focus on doctrinally grounded religious education that integrates sound pedagogy with intentional attention to spiritual formation. She is particularly interested in teaching about the family, modern prophets, and the doctrines of the Restoration in ways that foster spiritual formation. Her work emphasizes clear learning outcomes, meaningful assessment, and teaching practices that help students connect faith, reflection, and lived discipleship. She is also interested in faculty development and in adapting effective gospel teaching across in-person, online, and blended environments while preserving relational connection and spiritual depth.
