BYU Religion Credit Planner
Step 1 of 6 Enrollment timeline

Step 1 · Enrollment timeline

When did you first enroll at BYU?

BYU uses the first enrollment period to identify the starting policy. Transfer students enrolled before Fall 2026 may be able to petition into the new policy when it is beneficial.

Select your first BYU enrollment period
Not sure? Use the first semester or term in which you enrolled in BYU classes—not your expected graduation date.

Step 2 · Academic transfer credit

Tell us about your academic transfer credits.

Enter academic credits by the type of school where you earned them. The planner will show only the additional questions relevant to your policy.

credits
Do not include religion courses or AP/IB/exam credits here.
credits
Non-religion academic credit from another CES school.
credits
These count only for the two earlier policy eras.
Choose your enrollment period first to see which transfer rule applies.

Step 3 · Completed religion credits

How many religion credits have you completed?

Enter transcripted religion credits by source. Include the credits from any required courses you mark complete in the next step.

credits
Religion credits already completed at BYU.
credits
BYU–Idaho, BYU–Hawaii, Ensign College, or BYU–Pathway.

Step 4 · Institute transfer classes

Enter each Institute class separately.

Add every Institute class you want evaluated. Credits and qualification answers are kept separate because one class may qualify while another does not.

No Institute classes added.

No Institute classes to evaluate. Add a class above, or continue if none are being transferred.
Fall 2026+ policy: Classes completed after the end of Winter Semester 2026 may qualify as transferable religion credit. The policy permits one Institute class per semester or term, repeated for a second semester or term, with a maximum of two classes and 4 total credits. Each class must have an equivalent religion course offered at BYU and meet every qualification below.
Pre-Fall-2026 policy: All Institute credits entered here are added to the student's other eligible transfer credits for the historical transfer table. An Institute course may also fulfill its corresponding Cornerstone even when it does not meet the checklist above, but it does not fulfill BYU religion residency hours. Any residency hours still required may be completed with approved religion electives.

Step 5 · Required courses

Which required courses have you completed?

Mark whether each requirement was completed at BYU, another CES school, or Institute. Course fulfillment and BYU residency hours are tracked separately so the planner can apply the correct historical rules.

REL C 200 The Eternal Family May have an older substitution listed below.
REL C 225 Foundations of the Restoration
REL A 250 Jesus Christ and His Everlasting Gospel REL A 211 or REL A 310R may be an approved equivalent.
REL A 275 Teachings and Doctrine of the Book of Mormon REL A 121/122 rules vary by completion date.

Possible substitutions or equivalents

Only mark a course if it appears on the student's record. Completion windows matter for historical substitutions.
